What's really behind pupil dysregulation in the early years?

As SEMH needs rise in EYFS, it’s easy to jump straight to extra strategies, quick fixes and whatever gets everyone through the day.

But sometimes the biggest wins come from stepping back and looking at the everyday factors affecting children’s behaviour and regulation.

  • Transitions that aren't predictable enough.
  • Routines that work for most children - but need adapting for those with higher SEMH needs.
  • Communication barriers that create frustration or overwhelm in younger learners (which strains relationships with their parents/carers too).

That’s what this training helps you assess - so you can stop guessing and start focusing on what will actually move SEMH practice forward in your EYFS setting.

What you'll walk away with:

You won’t just leave with a few ideas scribbled next to a set of PowerPoint slides.

You’ll leave with a practical tool to review what’s really happening in EYFS - and see which parts of your provision need attention first.

By the end of the session, you'll have:

  • A copy of the new Beacon EYFS Toolkit - to review behaviour and SEMH across key areas of EYFS practice, including transitions, routines, environment and adult-child interactions.
  • A clearer picture of your current practice - what's working well and where there are blind spots, so you can put your time and energy where it will count.
  • Practical next steps to take back to your team, including useful actions and language for discussing behaviour, SEMH and provision with colleagues.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this training for?

This training is for EYFS leads, SENCOs and school leaders who want a clearer way to review behaviour and SEMH in the early years.

It will be especially useful if your school is seeing more children struggling with regulation, transitions, routines, communication or behaviour - and you want to look at what’s happening in EYFS before problems become more embedded.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

No. We’ll provide the materials you need for the session, including the EYFS Toolkit. You may want to bring a notebook, or any questions you already have about behaviour, SEMH, routines or transitions in your EYFS setting.

Will this be relevant if we already have strong EYFS practice?

Yes. The toolkit can help you confirm what is already working well, but also spot small inconsistencies or pressure points that may not be obvious during day-to-day practice.

Can two people from the same school attend?

Yes. The team ticket is designed for two people from the same school, such as an EYFS lead and SENCO, so you can discuss your setting together during the session.

What's your cancellation policy?

Places are non-refundable if you do not attend or if you cancel within 48 hours of the event.

What happens if we identify areas where we need more help?

The session will help you see where support may be needed. If you would like further help after the training, Beacon can support your school with follow-up guidance, advice and practical next steps linked to your EYFS provision.

What's the parking like at this venue? Do I need to bring change for parking?

Plenty of free parking is available at the site.
