What's really behind internal truancy?

Students rarely skip lessons for just one reason - which is why quick fixes rarely solve the problem.

During the session you’ll explore:

  • What internal truancy really looks like in secondary schools - and why traditional responses often fail to solve it.
  • The key drivers behind lesson avoidance - including anxiety, disengagement, peer dynamics and curriculum barriers.
  • How teaching staff can prevent internal truancy before it develops into a long-term pattern of behaviour.
  • How different teams across the school can work together to tackle internal truancy through a coordinated response.

A practical session designed for secondary school leaders

This is not a theoretical training session or a discussion of policy.

Instead, you'll:

  • Leave with new ideas you can share with staff and start implementing immediately.
  • Explore realistic case scenarios based on challenges secondary schools are currently facing.
  • Gain a clearer direction for tackling internal truancy in your school.

You'll also have the chance to ask questions about your own setting, compare notes with other schools in your area and get honest, expert-led feedback.
